There is nowadays much discussion about self driving or autonomous cars among stakeholders
Antonio Avenoso, Executive Director of the European Transport Safety Council said:
“Automated vehicles are already starting to appear on Europe’s roads, but regulators are still stuck in the slow lane. It is crucial that we get a much greater understanding of what the real world safety benefits would be, and what new risks would be introduced before these vehicles are put on sale.“ ETSC press release
FEVR will soon publish its position on this issue.
Jeannot Mersch, FEVR president:” Maybe for elderly or people with disabilities self driving cars might be helpful, but isn’t there also a risk that instead of a change to active mobility there will be more cars in our streets in the urban environment. Whether to be stand with a self driving car or as a “normal”driver in a traffic jam might make no difference”
